What it does under the chin
The area under the chin is treated with the face tip at depths set for its thin skin and the tissue beneath, and the clinician plans around a slim neck where fat loss would show. The heat contracts the tissue during the session, the tightening shows from about three weeks, and the collagen that follows firms the line over the three months after the course. A 2022 review sets out depths of 1 to 4 mm for this zone, and in our practice the clinician plans within that range.
The evidence
The device is FDA-cleared in the US for dermatological procedures needing coagulation or contraction of soft tissue. In a 2020 study of 247 patients treated on the lower face and neck with Morpheus8 and another radiofrequency device, 93% were pleased with the result. Three had a temporary nerve weakness and a small number had swelling lasting over six weeks or a hardened area, all of which resolved. For a fat pad, a different plan is needed, and we offer it at the same address.
Who it suits, and the session
Loose skin under the chin on someone whose double chin is skin rather than fat, often treated with the neck and the jawline in one plan. At the higher energy levels the device is cleared in the US for skin types I to IV; darker skin is treated at lower settings. Numbing cream for 30 to 45 minutes, then the area treated within a face-and-neck session of about an hour, with redness, swelling and grid marks for two to five days; the downtime page goes through the days. The change shows from about three weeks, peaks at three months after the last session, and lasts a year or more in our clinic's experience with one maintenance session a year.
